Speaker Requests

Thank you for your interest in suggesting a speaker or in speaking to the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu.  Speakers are given approximately 20 – 25 minutes for their presentation.  The Club membership fluctuates, but the average number of Rotarians is 110.  Depending on the week, there will be anywhere from 55 – 85 Rotarians in the audience.  Before completing the speaker request form below, please review the following information to ensure that this presentation and our Club will be a fit.

For a variety of reasons, not every speaker or presentation can be accommodated.  If your presentation is not selected, please accept our apologies and feel free to submit another request in the future.  Our speakers are booked several months in advance — one month at a minimum, and as many as four months in advance.  For scheduling purposes, if you are unable to make your presentation that far in the future, we may not be able to accommodate your request.

Please note:  We want every presentation to be a success.  That’s why we share with potential speakers the most common complaint we receive — members dislike presentations that sound too much like commercials.  The best way for speakers to overcome that is to tell us an interesting, compelling story without trying too hard to sell something.  That doesn’t mean you can’t promote an idea, a book, a cause, a bill, etc., but tell us why you have such strong conviction about the topic.  Talk from the heart.

Oftentimes, our members approach speakers after the presentation to get more involved – especially when they’ve been moved by an interesting, powerful or unusual talk.  We do ask that you not make a direct appeal for donations.
